Vice Principal Report

Welcome back to Term 4, a term full of excitement, trepidation, nerves and final celebrations for all of our graduating Year 12 students. With their final day of scheduled classes being Tuesday 22 October, the work that has been completed over the year is now being pieced together in preparation for the upcoming exams for our VCE students and final presentation evening for our VCAL students.

The annual VCAL presentation evening on Thursday 17 October is fast approaching. It showcases the depth and detail of work covered this year by the Year 12 VCAL students. The highlight of the evening is seeing each Year 12 student present their ‘personal journey story’ to their peers, teachers and families. This element of the VCAL program is their final outcome in attaining a Senior VCAL Certificate. The students are all now bringing together their story for this evening. It is a true celebration of their time at Padua College.

The trial exam period, during the holiday break and first two days of Term 4, played a significant role in having the students prepared for what they will encounter in the VCAA exams. With a near perfect attendance, the students are now receiving feedback, results and making the final adjustments in preparation for the final exams. Congratulations must go to Mrs Sugameli and Mr Travis Pearce for their detailed planning in ensuring the students are prepared for what most will encounter for the first time on Wednesday 30 October with their English exam. Having in excess of 420 students complete practice exams in every subject only serves to benefit those students who fully embraced this opportunity.

The official VCAA exam period has started with our Italian students completing their oral examination and Dance students their performance examination on Friday. Good luck to these students for their exams. The Music and Drama students have been in full song, voice and character with all students rehearsing their solo and group performances that begin their VCAA assessment on Monday 7 October. Thank you to Mark Mannock (Music) and Olimpia Rosenblum (Italian) as Learning Team Leaders and all the staff for their continued guidance of our students.

Our creative students who have been working over the year in preparing folios and final pieces of work are to be congratulated for their final products. The Year 12 Visual Arts and Technology exhibition commences on Monday 14 October and runs through until Thursday 17 October at the Mornington Campus. This will see the students display their final products that have been developed over 2019. Whilst the students are to be congratulated for their imagination and attention to detail, the teachers’ commitment to the students and ensuring their ideas come to life cannot be underestimated. To Kirstie Molesworth (Arts) and Anne Allan (Technology) as Learning Team Leaders and all the staff in these departments, your tireless work is truly valued by all members of the Padua community.

The final touches are now complete for the upcoming College Graduation Awards Assembly, Graduation Mass, Valedictory Dinner and Celebration Day. Parents of all Year 12 students will receive more detailed information via email, and we as a community look forward to celebrating these events with you. Your support as parents in attending specific events is greatly appreciated and highlights the contribution you have made to the College over the years.

Our Year 11 students are continuing on in their studies as their upcoming exam period is also approaching.  In November they will then move into beginning the initial part of their Year 12 course, prior to starting their holidays. The importance of finishing off Year 11 in a positive and respectful manner leads to a similar new beginning in 2020.

As always, I encourage all parents to continue to be active members of the Padua community, engaging in conversation about what topics are being studied in class, keeping abreast of upcoming events and making contact with a subject teacher as needed.
