Deputy Principals Report

Another busy fortnight on the Mornington Junior Campus with so many fantastic opportunities for our young people. As always, I commend our Year 7, 8 and 9 students who get involved and “give it a go!”

Year 8 eXcel Day

On Monday our Year 8 students participated in our second inter campus eXcel days. This day provided an opportunity for our Year 8 Students to focus on our Pastoral Care program based upon the eXcel framework (engage, connect, enable, learn- with the X as student and faith at the heart of all that we do).

These eXcel days are designed using positive education interventions to help our Year 8 students develop their leadership skills, teamwork skills and reflect with gratitude on their own God given strengths and virtues. Additionally, the days will allow the students to look at ways to challenge the social norms in order to be true to themselves.

Over the course of the 2 days each student will participate in the following:

* Faith workshop – Unpacking the strengths and virtues that God has given them.

* Team building activities – Working with a small group to succeed in the task.

* Leadership challenges – Designed to bring the best out of each student

* ‘What’s Normal’ workshop – Challenging the social norms and standing up for you.

We encourage you, as parents, to have a conversation with your child following these interactive days.

Athletics Carnival

A huge THANK YOU to all staff who ensured success of the Inter House Athletics Carnival at Ballam Park, in particular thank you to our Sports Co-ordinator Mr Emilio Di Paola who as always has the day running like clockwork.

It was a cold and wet day, however students who entered as many events as possible managed to stay warm. Well done!

In the end, Sebastian took out the carnival under the guidance of House Co-ordinator, Mr Peter Mc Kenzie….. well done Sebastian who now look towards a three-peat in 2020!

Home study Days

Please keep in mind that next week the students will have 2 Home study days: Thursday 22 August is our Year 7 2020 Transition Day with every one of the 464 new students for 2020 being interviewed by a member of staff.  While Friday 23 August is our staff Professional Learning day. Thank you  in advance to those staff assisting with the St Vinnies Winter Sleep out on Wednesday 21 August, in particular Mannix House Co-ordinator, Mr Steven Sosic and Chisholm House Co-ordinator Mrs Jodie Williams.

Little Big Ideas

One last thing could I like to recommend to all our Year 7 and Year 8 students the Origin Energy “Little Big Ideas” Competition. (Please see the link below)

https://www.littlebigidea.com.au/home.html

This is a competition for young inventors with amazing prizes including a trip to NASA! I certainly encourage you to enter as my daughter has previously entered (and won) with an idea for a Bandaid Dispenser. (see below link)

Hopefully we can have a winner from Padua!

Wishing you all continued blessings.
