Dear Parents/Guardians & Students

We have had a very fulfilling two weeks at Padua College since the last newsletter!

Hands on Learning

Last week we had the launch of the Hands on Learning program at the Tyabb Campus. Hands on Learning is a practical in-school program that caters to the different way young people learn, helping build confidence, engagement and achievement at school. Through the program students develop the teamwork, self-discipline and interpersonal skills vital for the 21st century workforce. The program commenced with eight Year 8 students from across the Campuses and will run each Monday for the rest of the Term. I thank Mr Rob Knight and Mr Tim Walker for their work in establishing and implanting the program. Please see Mr Knight’s article on the Hands on Learning program in this edition of the Paduan.

Year 8 eXcel Day

On Monday of this week, all Year 8 students gathered together at our Tyabb Campus to participate in the Year 8 eXcel Day. On this day students worked to develop their leadership skills, teamwork skills and reflect on their own God given strengths. I wish to thank Acting Vice Principal – Students, Ms Gina Goss, Positive Education Facilitator, Ms Suzi Hyland and the Pastoral Executive Team for all their work in preparing this day for our Year 8 students.

Campus House Athletics

This Tuesday 13 August we had the Mornington Campus House Athletics followed by the Rosebud House Athletics on Wednesday 15 August. The Tyabb Campus House Athletics will be on Friday 16 August and the Senior Students Athletics will be held next Tuesday 20 August. While the weather isn’t always kind to us on these days, the students spirit and participation is to be congratulated. My sincere thanks to Mr Emilio Di Paolo (M), Ms Rachel Ball (M), Mrs Nicole Love (T) and Mrs Donna Nettlefold (R) and all staff involved in the organisation and running of these days.

Year 10 Subject Selection Information Night ad ECaT

On Wednesday 26 and Thursday 27 July the Mornington Campus hosted in excess of 1500 students and parents for the Year 10 Subject Selection Information Evening and ECaT. I would like to thank all staff involved in providing students and parents with information that has enabled them to make confident decisions regarding subject selections that will lead to future pathways.

I would particularly like to thank Senior Vice Principal – Learning and Teaching, Ms Kelly McGurn, the members of the Learning and Teaching Executive, the College Careers Team of Mrs Shannon Maher, Mrs Kate Kerr, Ms Clare Stipic and Mrs Leanne Milne in preparing for the event, and particularly Mrs Sarah Bounds for her co-ordination of this entire process.

St Vinnie’s Trivia Night

Congratulations to Miss Samantha Vinson and the Year 12 CAP Class for another highly successful St Vinnie’s Trivia Night last Friday night. This annual event raises funds for the St Vincent de Paul Society and I thank families for their support of this fundraiser. Thanks also to Mr Emilio Di Paolo and Mr Stephen Veneris for their entertainment in hosting the Trivia Night.
