Director of Campus Report

Early in Term 3 is the time of year when our Year 8 and 9 students need to consider their subject selections for next year. They have been involved in a number of information sessions to help them make their selections. Last week our Year 9 students had the opportunity to attend the subject selection evening at the Mornington Campus and this week they had a further information session with Mr Ryan Gingell, Learning and Teaching Co-ordinator at Tyabb.

It has also been a busy period for our Mathematics staff and students. Congratulations to the 53 Tyabb students who sat last week’s Australian Mathematics Competition. This was a voluntary undertaking and it was pleasing to see so many students take on the opportunity to really extend themselves on this National Competition. These students will be recognised at our end of term assembly.

Congratulations also to our Year 9 Mathematicians. They have now completed their first formal Examination and have received very important feedback in relation to their most appropriate mathematical pathways in 2020. Given that our Year 9’s are now becoming more aware of their future mathematical pathways, our Year 9 Maths staff are deliberately differentiating the curriculum to better suit the varied needs of the group going forward. We’d like to congratulate the maths team, led by Mr Luke Martin on their tireless work in providing these opportunities for our students

As parents and as educators we are all concerned about the way teenagers use social media. Despite lots of education around the dangers of misusing social media we are still dealing with many incidents. We would encourage parents to take some time and sit with their children to do an audit of the “friends” that their children have on social media. Also, I hope that parents took advantage of the Parent Forum Group’s presentation of Susan McLean on Wednesday night. Susan is Australia’s foremost expert in the area of cyber safety and young people and she is the author of “Sexts, Texts & Selfies” - the presentation was very informative!
