SUSAN McLEAN – CARING FOR KIDS IN AN ONLINE WORLD

NEXT WEDNESDAY 14 AUGUST, 7.30pm

MORNINGTON CAMPUS (PEARSON LECTURE THEATRE, WHYTE SENIOR LEARNING CENTRE)

In a world where cyber technology issues are ongoing challenges for all of us, the Padua College Parent Group has invited Susan McLean, author of ‘Sexts, Texts and Selfies’ and one of Australia’s foremost experts in cyber-safety and young people, to work with us.

Please come along to be part of this important opportunity to learn about the challenges of cyber-safety and discuss what we can do about the issues confronting us.

Numbers are getting tight so if interested please go to: www.trybooking.com/528511

PADUA PARENT GROUP

This week the Parent Group met to discuss and organise a range of things.

We are always keen to welcome new members into the group, so to give you some idea of the sorts of things that engage us, here are some of the items from the agenda …

* We finalised the organisation of the Susan McLean Parent Evening and made sure all aspects of the event have been covered.

* We discussed our coordination of the Padua BBQ that we coordinate each year at the Arthurs Seat Challenge in November, as well as assisting the Padua College team who run/walk the event.

* We received a report back from the college about student socials, particularly the Graduation event at the end of Yr 12. The group had asked for some consideration of the Grad Mass and Awards and the school responded with a survey and subsequent changes to some of the arrangements.

* We discussed transition arrangements for our new Yr 7 students in 2020, particularly the organisation of Parent reps for each of the 7-9 Houses to aid parents as their first student comes to the college.

* And so much more!!

The group meets in the St Clare Centre at the Mornington Campus because it is a lovely setting and very practical in terms of parking and accessibility. We would welcome any new members who would like to be involved and have a say in the life of the school! See the dates for further sessions below.

PARENT COOKING EVENINGS – next is happening on Thurs 29 August

These evenings are both fun and very productive as we cook meals to be given to Padua families at times when they might need some support.

If you would like to be part of the next event on 29 August, or future evenings, please send an email to Sarah Hansen at the college (shansen@padua.vic.edu.au ) and she will add you to our list. We would love to see you there.

PARENTS & PARISHES EVENING – SONGS AND STORIES OF HOPE

TUES 3 SEPTEMBER, 7.30-8.45pm

This is the second time we have run the Parents & Parishes Reflection Evening at the college. Last year’s event was a great success and we have again invited singer/song writer Maria Forde to lead us in exploring this year’s school theme of HOPE. Mark the date down in your calendars.

POSITIVE EDUCATION AT PADUA COLLEGE

The College is very excited about the ways in which we are striving to meet the educational and social-emotional learning needs of our students. The roll out of Positive Education across the College continues this year, with the development of ‘eXcel’, our new pastoral program.

The program we base our activities on is called Learning Curve and parents are very much encouraged to have a look through the program. It can be found at
