Careers Program – Deakin Uni Visit

The Year 10 students from the senior Houses of Djeembana, MacKillop, Merton and John XXIII finished their careers fortnight with a full-day excursion to various TAFEs and Universities. I was lucky enough to accompany 36 students, along with Mr Mark De Fazio, to the beautiful Burwood Campus of Deakin University. There the students were taken through an interesting and informative session on what Deakin offered, including the many scholarships available. They had an extra session by the head of the Sports Sciences, who worked with VIS and was instrumental in Olympic swimming team’s Gold success in 2016.

The students then had an opportunity to go on a Campus tour. One of the student tour leaders was Matt Steinberg, a former Padua College student (2018), who is in his first year of a Bachelor of Commerce. Matt was the inaugural Cardijn House captain during his time at Padua College. He was a recipient of one of the Deakin scholarships this year and is enjoying his time at University very much. The tour gave the students a chance to see the many facilities on offer. They finished with lunch in one of the many food areas on the campus. The students were wonderful representatives of Padua College and were attentive and interested, with many looking forward to Padua’s ECAT night and to attending a future open day at Deakin.
