Student Achievement: Oscar Taylor, Year 9 Sebastian

World Scout Jamboree

Congratulations to Oscar Taylor, Year 9 Sebastian, who has been selected to attend the 24th World Scout Jamboree in West Virginia, USA next month. Oscar, who attends Frankston Scout group, will be going to America and Canada for almost a month to join in one of the biggest Scouting events on the Scouting Calendar. Oscar will make up part of Australia’s largest contingency to have ever represented Australia at the Jamboree, which is held only every 4 years for 14-17 year olds.

The jamboree will be held at the Summit Bechtel Reserve, one of the world’s largest sustainable outdoor educational space. Over 40,000 Scouts and support staff from around the world will attend to experience 10 days of activities such as BMX riding, zip lining, mountain biking and rock climbing. After this, they will head to Los Angeles for a day at Disneyland and then to Canada for a five-day trip to Calgary to do white water rafting and tour a glacier.

Oscar has personally fundraised for his trip through Bunnings BBQ’s, face painting at fetes and letterbox drops. Through this upcoming trip he will get to enact the skills he has been developing for many years working toward his Australian Scout Medallion and learn from the four core values of the Jamboree: adventure, service, sustainability and leadership.
