Dear Parents/Guardians & Students,

SIS Cross Country

Congratulations to the Padua College Team on a wonderful result at the SIS Cross Country last week. Padua won the majority of the age group pennants, the junior, intermediate and senior shields and the overall aggregate shield!

My thanks and congratulations to Mr Terry Luppino, Mr Emilio Di Paolo, Ms Rachel Ball, Mr Nathan Bradbury, Mr Mark De Fazio, Mrs Kelscha Hutchison, Ms Nicole Love, Ms Brittany Graham, Mr Luke Tyrell, Mrs Jenny Tomkins and Mr Bill Dynes for their preparation with our students for the event and their attendance on what was a very cold day!

Sister of Mercy Visit

When Sr Marie Ralph rsm and Sr Margaret McHugh rsm joined us for the Blessing and Opening of the Whyte Senior Learning Centre in April, they were so impressed with the sculpture and new facilities they asked if they could bring a group of Sisters to visit! Yesterday, Wednesday 5 June, we were privileged to have 15 Sisters of Mercy visiting the Mornington Campus to tour the Whyte Senior Learning Centre and sculpture, as well as engage with some staff and students and participate in a liturgy and share lunch. This was a great opportunity for our College community to spend some time exploring our Mercy charism with the Sisters and I thank Mr Michael Harrison, Mrs Carolyn Cockerham and Mr Ange Virgona for their role in organising this day.

Padua Parent Forum

My thanks to Ms Sarah Hansen, Mr Michael Harrison, the Padua Parents group and all assisting staff for their organisation to allow the Parent Forum with Michael Grose and Dr Jodi Richardson to occur last Wednesday.

It was wonderful to listen to Michael and Jodi talk about how parents/guardians can help their children build resilience, as well as share  some wonderful techniques and strategies.

The evening was well attended with over 250 people in attendance.

Year 10 and Year 11 Exams commenced this week, and all students undertaking a VCE subject will sit the GAT next week. This is a busy time for our senior students and staff and I encourage all senior students to ‘stay on track’ with their studies as approach the end of Semester 1 and prepare for Semester 2.

VCE Premier’s Award

On Monday I was pleased to be invited to attend the VCE Premier’s Awards to see Year 11 student, Natalie Winsall be presented with her Award. In 2018 Natalie received a perfect study score of 50 in Music Performance (VCE VET), this is particularly outstanding result considering that Natalie was in Year 10 at the time! I congratulate Natalie and her teacher, Mr Mark Mannock, on this outstanding achievement.

Farewell Fr Laurie (recently retired President of the Canonical Administrators of Padua College)

Last weekend Fr Laurie Pearson celebrated his Golden Jubilee having been ordained into the priesthood 50 years ago. This is indeed an amazing achievement and we have been so privileged to have him as part of the Padua College community for the last 19 years while he has been the Parish Priest at St Thomas More’s, Mt Eliza. Last weekend Fr Laurie also celebrated his retirement Masses at the Parish and we wish him well as he moves into the next phase of his life that will hopefully give him more time to enjoy some travel and pursue his personal interests. It is planed that a new priest will be appointed to the parish of St Thomas Mores in the near future and in the interim supply priests will celebrate Sunday Masses and baptisms and funerals.

Staff News

This week we welcome back Ms Bridie Larkins from Parental Leave. I thank Ms Lucinda Nolan for increasing to a full time teaching load during Bridie’s period of leave.

Next Week

A reminder to all families that next Monday 10 June is the Queens’ Birthday public holiday and I wish all families a restful long weekend. Also, next Friday 14 June is a Report Writing Day for teachers and as such there will be no scheduled classes. Students are encouraged to use this day for at home study.
