Think Global, Act Local

During Think Global, Act Local students were given the opportunity to take a closer look at our Mornington Peninsula marine environments and the impact that humans are having on these environments.

They worked in small cross-campus groups to formulate an Inquiry question relating to Port Phillip and Westernport Bays. During our field work days, students learnt scientific skills such as beach profiling, water testing, identification of marine species and litter assessment. Activities included Rock platform surveys at Sorrento Back Beach and Mushroom Reef at Flinders, mangroves investigation at Hastings, beach profiling and litter assessments and a historical tour of Sorrento.

For many of our students the highlight of this week was the opportunity to swim with our local Burranan Dolphins and population of Seals in Port Phillip Bay. We know these memories will stay with our students forever and will hopefully encourage a greater care and respect for our local environment.
