Art Club at Tyabb

Every Monday at lunchtime, a group of dedicated and talented Year 7-9 students from the Tyabb Campus meet in the Art room with Mr Tyrrell, Mrs Fitzgerald and Mrs Colcott to work on a range of different Art projects. This group recently completed a large, collaborative painting of a Frida Kahlo self-portrait, which they started late last year.

The commitment and enthusiasm of the students has paid off. The result of their hard work is an impressive painting, comprising 30 individual painted pieces, arranged to create a finished painting 1.5m wide and 1.8m tall.

Each piece was hand drawn and then painted, sometimes by one student, but often by a number of different students, making this a truly collaborative artwork. Each piece was created in isolation and then stuck together at the end, which creates the interesting “patchwork” effect where colours and lines in one piece don’t necessarily match the pieces next to it.

We have already started a new collaborative painting and there are two more artworks in the planning stage, so if you haven’t come along to Art Club yet but want to get involved, be at the Tyabb Campus Art room next Monday at the start of lunch to join in the fun and help create something.
