Vice Principal's Report

A very warm welcome to the Year 11 and 12 Campus for all parents and students as we embark on the 2018 school year. All students started a day earlier than in the past to allow for a jump into classes, assessment dates and allowing for important information around College expectations to be delivered without impacting class time.

To our 14 new students who join Padua College for the first time in 2018, we welcome you and your families. We look forward to seeing you all share your gifts and talents with the Padua community and know that as a community we are here to support you on your journey.

I also welcome Ms Caroline Jeremiah as the new House Co-ordinator for the Francis House. Ms Jeremiah joins us from within Catholic Education and brings with her extensive experience in working with senior students in their final years. Mrs Seleena Nichols (Mercy House Co-ordinator) is on leave for Term 1 and for such time Mr Peter Harte will be Acting Mercy House Co-ordinator.

Our VCE/VCAL information evening provided the opportunity for all parents and students to begin or consolidate the valuable relationship that exists between the school and home through spending time with their homeroom teacher and House Co-ordinator. Whilst not all parents were able to join us for the evening, the presentation that was delivered by Mr Travis Pearce and Mrs Helen Sugameli has been sent to all parents via Caremonkey this week.

This week the Year 12 students take time away from their studies in attending the Retreats. These Retreats are held in such regard by previous students who continually comment that they are a highlight of their time at Padua. The move to the start of the year was in response to the overwhelming feedback from students that they wanted to forge a close relationship with their Homeroom Teacher and House Co-ordinator as soon as possible. The retreat program provides a focus on who each students is as an individual, within the wider community, their connection to family and the contribution they can have to the world outside Padua. It is part of the College Mission on educating and developing the whole person.

The next few weeks will see many students complete their first SAC or SAT that are the building blocks for 2018. It is as of this time that all students have 100% access to all of the marks for their subject, an even playing field for all. We encourage all students and parents to communicate with their subject teacher and homeroom teacher in the pursuit of excellence in all they encounter at Padua.
