CODE RED DAY – Procedure Communication

On Code Red Days, determined as days of Catastrophic fire danger by the Emergency Management Commissioner, Padua College will be closed. The gates will not open and no College related activity will take place on all campuses.

Where possible, four to seven days’ notice of a Code Red day will be provided. Parents and carers should expect that in some instances fewer than four days’ notice may be provided.

Once a Code Red Day has been determined by the Emergency Management Commissioner, the final decision to pre-emptively close a school or early childhood service will be confirmed no later than 1.00pm the day before the planned closure. Once the decision to close has been confirmed, there will be no change – regardless of improvements to the weather conditions the following afternoon or overnight. This will help limit confusion and provide time for parents and guardians to make alternative care arrangements for their children.

Families should monitor news services and http://emergency.vic.gov.au

Further advice will be provided to you directly by Padua using SMS or CareMonkey. Please ensure you monitor your phone & email account.

When a school or early childhood service is closed due to a Code Red day determination, no staff will remain on site and all out-of-school care programs (including vacation, before and after school programs) will not operate. Separate arrangements (including the possibility of cancellation) will be made for multiple day camps and excursions.

Families are encouraged to develop their own Bushfire Survival Plans and know when to implement them, in conjunction with and separate to, the College’s Code Red Day procedures.

Further enquiries should be directed to the OHS Coordinator.
