Family Schools Partnership Newsletter

Our Parent Forum on Positive Mental Health for children was held last Thursday night at Padua College Tyabb.

We were delighted to welcome a large group of parents from our four catholic schools located in Western Port as well as parents from other schools in our area. We were
especially delighted to welcome new Padua families to our community. The evening commenced with stalls from each of our schools containing information and resources to support parents in creating opportunities to build positive mental health in themselves and their children.

David Wright commenced the speakers for the evening with a presentation on SPOTA. David is based at Balnarring and SPOTA is a local initiative that helps identify the need for intervention for someone struggling in a very simple way. David shares SPOTA cards that look like this and the card fits easily in your wallet to refer to.

Dr Diane McGreal who has presented to us before, continued her message of how to build positive mental health for ourselves thus building this in our children. I always love that Di can talk realistically about parenting and that there is no such thing as a perfect parent. One message she has is where she challenges us to tell our children the following three things:
● I love you
● I wouldn't change anything about you
● You are perfect exactly how you are

This message is so powerful and children need to know that they are loved unconditionally. With the challenges of parenting, see if you can find a time this week to say that. Di also talks about making sure your children overhear you talking about them and saying really positive things. Set it up and make it happen. Thanks to all who attended and the staff who believe in this for our children and made it happen.
