Student Achievement: Victoria Attwood, Year 10 Anthony

Latrobe Young Writers Award

Congratulations to Victoria Attwood who won the Latrobe Young Writers Award.

This was open to all year 10 students in Victoria. There were 10 finalists who read extracts from their stories to a gathering at Latrobe University and Victoria’s “Rattled” was the winner.

Judge’s Comments “With its multiple points of view, this is an ambitious story that cleverly engages with the theme by depicting a road accident, while also reminding us of how our lives intersect with those of others. The writing is confident and the different voices distinctive. The characters are drawn with great economy and their mini-dramas are convincing. Your success or otherwise in this competition is in some ways incidental, as you are already well on the way to developing a strong authorial voice and I am confident that you will continue to hone your craft no matter what. Well done, and keep writing!”

Victoria has won $500 for herself and $500 for the school. Victoria and her family have been invited to a ceremony at Latrobe University to recognise her achievement.  Victoria’s older sister, Dannielle, Year 12 Francis 4, reached top 10 in 2015.
