SIS Book In Day

SIS Book In A Day Champions for 2017!

On Tuesday 15 August a team of eight students from Rosebud Campus, Hayden Flynn, Isabella Bisogni, Madelene Scharpenack, Caitlyn McCrabb, Olivia Wicks, Ruby McPherson, Katherine Spear and Kate Farquhar made their way to the Tyabb Campus for the SIS Book In A Day Competition. Along with other teams from the Mornington and Tyabb campuses. The students wrote an entire novella in a day (as the name suggests) using story parameters provided by various SIS schools. The books were written for a Year 7 audience and were fully illustrated including a front and back cover.

Once the stories had been written, illustrated, proof-read, formatted, printed and bound, they were then sent to random SIS schools with no names to be judged by Year 7 students. From the three campuses Rosebud’s murder mystery titled ‘Skin Deep’ was chosen by the students as the winner.

‘Skin Deep’ was then submitted along with the winners from the two other SIS divisions to be judged by Claire Hallifax (Publishing Manager at Scholastic). She chose Padua Rosebud’s novella as the champion!

It was commented that “I found this story in particular to have a well-thought through structure, and I felt as if a lot of thought had gone into the different characters realisation on the page. The use of descriptive text and dialogue was balanced, and the story clever, at times witty, engaging and also horrifying when it needed to be.”

Congratulations to all the teams that competed, Mrs Cummins and Ms Ryan for all their work in arranging, driving and inspiring us, and to our champion Rosebud team!
