MEET THE PRINCIPAL … PARENT ENGAGE, CONSULT AND ADVISE EVENING

This evening is an opportunity to meet and talk through a range of Padua issues with our principal, Anthony Banks. Anthony is always keen to hear parents’ ideas and perceptions about the education of their daughters and sons, and so we are greatly looking forward to hosting parents on this night.

The date for this evening is Tuesday 19 September at the Tyabb Campus.

If you haven’t been to the Tyabb Campus before, we will conduct a short tour of the campus at 7.15pm for those interested.

PARENT FORUM

THE RESILIENCE PROJECT   https://theresilienceproject.com.au/

Two weeks ago the Padua Parent Forum Group ran an evening with speaker Hugh van Cuylenburg, founder & director of the Resilience Project, on how we as parents can help build resilience and positive emotional well-being in our children.

Hugh spoke enthusiastically and entertainingly about three pillars of resilience and mental health – gratitude, empathy, mindfulness – GEM. There were many touching stories and hilarious anecdotes, as well as some sobering statistics – 1 in 5 adults will experience a mental health problem this year. All this while experiencing some technical difficulties which tested Hugh’s own resilience, a test he passed with flying colours.

If you would like to consider some of the material from the night, the slides can be found at

I’d like to take the opportunity to thank all the parents and staff who helped make this such a wonderful evening. But special thanks goes to the organising group of Deirdre Snooks, Louise Piva and Annette Wethering.

PARENT ON-LINE RESOURCES

Last edition we highlighted a great resource at Headspace about communication.

This time of the term, particularly for older students can become quite stressful as final assessments are completed and exams come into view.

If you are concerned about how to handle this, there is another resource offered by Headspace – ‘A Parent Guide to School Issues and Stress’. It is highly recommended.

If you find a great on-line resource, please email it through on the address at this end of this page.

A PARENT REFLECTION …

Unity

I dreamt I stood in a studio,

And watched two sculptors there.

The clay they used was a young child’s mind,

And they fashioned it with care.

One was a teacher, the tools he used

Were books, music, and art.

One a parent with a guiding hand

And a gentle loving heart.

Day after day, the teacher toiled,

With a touch that was deft and sure.

While the parent labored by his side,

And polished and smoothed it o’er.

And when at last, their work was done,

They were proud of what they had wrought.

For the things they had molded into the child,

Could neither be sold nor bought.

And each agreed they would have failed

If each had worked alone,

For behind the parent stood the school

And behind the teacher the home.
