SIS Athletics Carnival

Over one hundred and fifty students from across all four campuses represented Padua College at the SIS Athletics carnival at the Lakeside Track on Tuesday 29 August.

Despite the interrupted weeks (with the postponement of three carnivals: 2 x Mornington plus 1 x Rosebud) leading up to the day, the Padua athletes came together as one to try and win the SIS Division One carnival for the fourth consecutive year.

In cold but ideal conditions for running, our students performed superbly by placing highly in a range of events.

Junior athletes including Ella Fischer, Devlin Webb, Billy Taylor, Lachlan Hodder, Paige Elvey and Mia Bilston all performed superbly whilst in the intermediate section, Taj Westworth, Tristan Rogers, Noah Crossling, Jessica Guy-Toogood, Georgia Mills, Georgia Middleton and Campbell Steedman gained valuable points throughout the day.

In the senior division, elite athlete, Will Hamill broke a long standing SIS long jump record with a jump over 6 metres and then went on to break the SIS triple jump record with a jump over 11 metres. Congratulations Will!!

Athletics Captains Callen Goldsmith and Bridie Kennedy won many of their events and led by example.

In the end, Padua won the Under 13 male and female pennants, the Under 14 male and female pennants, the Under 15 male pennant, the Under 16 male and female pennants and the Under 17 male and female pennants.

This led to Padua winning the Junior and Intermediate Shields, the Boys and Girls Aggregate Shields and the overall Championship Shield.

Congratulations to all the students who attended on the day and many thanks for the way you represented the College and yourselves.

Special thanks to the many students what "stepped up" to compete in events that were not necessarily their forte and to the Year 12s who have given many years of service to the team.

Thanks to Mr. Bonney, Mr. Byles, Mr. Gleeson, Mr Bradbury, Ms. Ball, Mrs Nettlefold,

Mr. Luppino, Ms. Romeril, Ms. Whittaker and the other staff that assisted prior to and on the day. Your involvement is greatly appreciated.

As in 1999, 2000, 2001, 2011, 2012, 2014, 2015 and 2016 Padua has been successful in winning the three major SIS Division carnivals for the year!!! An amazing achievement.

Congratulations to all involved.
