Mornington Interhouse Athletics Carnival

After a couple of postponements due to wet weather, the Mornington students finally got an opportunity to compete in the Interhouse Athletics Carnivals at Ballam Park for 2017. All students exhibited great house spirit by competing with great determination and by encouraging their fellow house mates.

There were many outstanding performances especially on the intermediate/senior day where two Padua records were broken! Will Hamill (11 Mercy) set a new Triple Jump record by jumping 12.79 metres. (The old record was set in 2002). In the high jump, before a large, enthusiastic crowd, a new record of 2.00 metres (yes, 2 metres!!) was set in the Year 11 boy’s event by Kyle Emerton (11 MacKillop). Congratulations to both boys on your fantastic achievements.

On the track, Georgia Middleton (10 Kolbe) won the Female Sprinter of the Year for the second consecutive year whilst Campbell Steedman (10 Assisi) won the Boy’s Sprint Trophy (The Graham Warr Trophy) against tough opposition.

The Year 7/8 carnival was held the next day in good weather conditions where mass participation and great spirit was exhibited by the students. Once again there were many impressive performances across the day with the highlight being the Junior Boys and Girls sprints won by Benji Faletanoai (8 Clare ) and Paige Elvey (8 Cardijn) respectively.

Thanks must also go to the large number of staff, especially Mr Bradbury, Mr Byles, Ms Whittaker, Mr Van Wees and the other staff who helped to set up the venue and to the many other staff and students who assisted with the running of events either as marshals, time keepers or assistants. Congratulations to all the students who competed at the two interhouse athletics days.
