Padua College AFL Herald Sun Intermediate Girls Division 2 Championships

In the augural AFL Intermediate Girls Football competition, the Padua Mornington Intermediate Girls Football team earned the right to represent the SIS in Craigieburn.

In what can only be described as total domination, our girls took on the winners of the APS (Associated Public Schools) and the EISM (Eastern Independent Schools Melbourne) associations - Carey Grammar and Mt Lilydale Secondary College - and were AMAZING!! Our first game v Mt Lilydale set the scene for the day with a comprehensive win. This was followed up with an even more convincing win against Carey Grammar.

In the grand final, v Mt. Lilydale, our girls came to the fore. Great team work, enthusiasm and school spirit, all combined to take out the game 10.6.66 to 0.6.6!!!

Opposition coaches and AFL officials, after enquiring about where Padua College is… Dandenong???... were all very complimentary of our girls. They couldn’t believe they were so good, so determined, so enthusiastic and such good sports!! We wouldn’t expect any less!

Stand out players were Bella Shannon (Captain and Best on Ground) and Keely Byrne, Mia Allison, Grace Hodder, Sharnia Gammaldi and Phoebe Canning were consistent performers and were able to bring others into the game throughout the day.

Thanks to Padua Staff members, Sam Vinson, Rachel Ball, Grainne Snooks and to SIS Secretary Sharon Lowe for their great help. Special thanks to Steve Veneris who came along to support on his way to a PD and ended up at the Northern Hospital with Darcy Fennel and Mill-Lee Conway who suffered hand and finger injuries.

Congratulation to all members of the team on what was a memorable day.
