Student Achievement: Jemima Smith, Year 7 Teresa

Last year Jemima was a Social Justice Leader at her primary school, St Bernards in East Coburg, Melbourne, where she decided to run a ‘Coat Drive’ collecting coats and winter woollies for the homeless, refugees and also for women and children at a local shelter.

Jemima involved her class and other Social Justice leaders and together with the help of our Parish Priest, teachers and school community they collected and delivered over 220 coats, scarves, beanies, blankets and winter woollies.

Last week Jemima was invited back St Bernards to speak at assembly and launch the 2017 Coat Drive which has now been named "Jemima's Coat Drive" in honour of her! Jemima spoke beautifully and the photos show her speaking at assembly, being interviewed by her former Year 6 teacher Mr McMahon and with Principal Ms Joanne Doherty.

We are so proud of Jemima’s social justice work and her empathy with those in our community who have less and are struggling. Well done to Jemima, keep up the good work in our social justice projects at Padua College!
