Deputy Principal's Report

Term 1 continues to bring many opportunities for our Year 7-10 Mornington Students to showcase their many talents. It is important that we encourage our young people to get involved with as many co-curricular activities as possible and where possible just …..“Give it a go”.

When we have this mindset amazing things can happen for us all.

Padua Debating

Congratulations to Mrs Liz Filgate, Miss Scarlett Christopherson, Miss Lauren Carter and Mrs Brigitte Hamilton and our Debating Team who have made a very successful start to the debating season.

Tuesday 7 March marked the beginning of the DAV debating competition. Mornington Campus had one C Grade team participate, debating the topic “That the value of a citizen’s vote should diminish with age”.

We also had three D Grade teams debating, discussing the topic “That Australia should adopt a new national flag”. The students undertook extensive preparation for these debates and on the evening, we were able to win all of our debates.  Special mention to Kaitlyn Raich, Ben Hansen and Grace Waters for being awarded best speakers. (Pictured below)

We wish the students luck as they prepare for round two.

Year 9 -12 Swimming Carnival

Our Year 9-12 Swimming carnival was yet again a great success with staff and students much appreciating the kinder weather compared to the original swim day planned for a fortnight previously. Many thanks to Mr Di Paolo and the Swim team for all their efforts, and further congratulations to Mr Sambell and Chisholm House for taking out the Trophy.

Year 8 Medieval Day

Many thanks to Mr Daniel Kerlin – Learning Area Leader for Humanities and his team for their work in leading the Year 8 Medieval Day on Friday 10 March. The goal of the day was to make the learning as ‘hands on’ as possible, which meant that students participated in medieval games and entertainment, dance, archery and being able to fight a real knight in armour. Students participated enthusiastically, and the staff were very impressed by the students that made the effort to bring a medieval costume on the day (the costumes were excellent!) All in all it was a great day for all involved.
